We just won a Lucie Award for Generation Wealth!
Phaidon bagged Book Publisher of the Year thanks to Lauren Greenfield’s brilliant examination of modern money
Lauren Greenfield’s book Generation Wealth captures a certain, limited side of contemporary ambition and achievement. The photobook, which features images taken by Greenfield over the past quarter century, looks at the widespread wish to become excessively wealthy, at almost any cost. It’s a sharply observed long-form work of photojournalism, and an object lesson in the pitfalls of pecuniary want.
However, both Greenfield and Phaidon reached loftier goals last night, when the Lucie Foundation awarded us Book Publisher of the Year on the strength of Greenfield’s brilliant book. Greenfield was also shortlisted in the International Photographer of the Year Award in the book category.
The Lucie Foundation draws together key figures within the international photography community to pay tribute to the most outstanding photography achievements at a gala awards ceremony held annually at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Previous recipients of Lucie awards include Henri Cartier-Bresson, Richard Avedon, David Bailey, Annie Leibovitz and Magnum Photos. So, it’s nice to see we’re in good company, and that, unlike some of the subjects in Lauren’s book, you don’t need to draw up in a gold stretch to know you’ve truly arrived.
